Why do I keep falling in love with EM? "OVER AND OVER"

Hi friends,

I present the first screencast this week, for the blog - in response to my friend, Nicolas Pineda's (@nfpineda) video that was released last year,

Before you go ahead, Please Read this :

This video is intended for young EM Physicians, for EM Induction programs - primarily for the nations where EM is still in the developing phases. It takes us through the 10 points that we come across everyday as ED Physicians. Don't get upset if you don't agree with parts of it, these are just my own opinions. This is not an evidence based kind of talk. Please feel free to share your thoughts and comments.

I am grateful to the teaching course faculty, all my mentors and colleagues. This was not possible without their guidance and support.

Hope you enjoy it..

Thanks!!

  1. Congratulations Dr Chanana for all the efforts on your passionate venture. It does appear to be a topic quite close to your heart. You really didn't need to apologise for anything. You mean well and that's quite obvious.

That being said, I was mildly disappointed that the talk was not the love song for the specialty that the title promised. It did start out as such but somewhere it changed into the dos and don'ts of EM practice! Keeping your target audience in mind, a novice wanting to test EM waters would find that quite daunting don't you think? And as for me, a fellow EM practioner, I was hoping to refresh my reasons for worshipping the same God as you. Think I will have to wait for your next post for that :-)

I wish you good luck with all your future endeavours. Count me in for more thoughts and comments :-)

    1. Hi - thanks a lot for putting in your thoughts.
With this talk, I intended to give an idea to the residents what EM is all about - what are the challenges that we face everyday and how we can come across them also incorporating my reasons for loving the speciality!
I agree with your perception of turning it into dos and donts at some points though. A lot also depends on how one looks at it. For instance, one of my colleagues said after he he heard the talk "Being nice is imp if you work in EM, that means EM makes you a nicer person - this is why we love EM".
EM is indeed a difficult task to handle and it should be mentioned to the trainees right at the outset. May be we should also teach them how to tackle the above mentioned issues.

      Thanks once again!
Look forward to hear more from you
